  Paragraph 4 about "Alex"'s stock market woes was really annoying. One brother commented on how "the financial system is under Satan's control". I hope he remembers that when he reads the charitable gift guide which makes sure to include stocks and bonds. Not to mention, the hedge fund the WT invests in.

  Do You Believe In ANYTHING That The Witnesses Taught At This Point In Your Life?

  for example, they pride themselves in what they don't believe such as immortal souls, the trinity, hellfire, etc.. some exjws still believe it is the "truth" and support the basics.. .

  I believe that they have a specific agenda for everything they print. This is not an "educational work" nor are they disseminating "bible truths."

  They will concoct a convenient formula of scriptures that promotes the agenda-du-jour.

  JWs Lack of Love and Feelings

  i have noticed the extreme lack of love in this group of people who preach love, love, love.. we recently had serious floods come through our area and the jws couldnt have cared less.

  our 'worldly' friends did sooo much for us though.

  raising money, giving gifts, cards, accomodation and so much support and hard work.. i personally think jws are one of the most insensitive, uncaring religions around.. three religious groups were absolutely wonderful during the flooding of our area.

  Orwellian is the right word!

  And definitely the mental tie to God is a big part of it. You go from thinking that you know God and that he personally backs your faith to nothing. You start from scratch.

  I believe in God too. I read the book The Shack. It's a fictional account. (A lot if bible-thumpers criticize it) It was soothing-such a different picture of God than what I was given before. Made me realize that other perspectives will help you still believe and it will be a healing type of faith.

  Thanks *lost*. I try to imagine a witness who is curious and stumbles upon this board. A thread like this might turn them off, if it's filled with too many assumptions regarding their individual behaviour. No doubt about it, the org is evil and creates a toxic environment filled with malice. However, JW's are still individuals and will react in their own ways to that influence. There are exceptions to the norm....

  I've been mentally awake (still in) for a few years now. It is scary and confusing, especially at the start. It gets better - hang in there.

  I've experienced the lack of love and feeling, also.

  Before we paint too broad of a brushstroke. I've also experienced love and caring. There have been times where the "friends" have taken me into their homes and other times cooked for my family and sent flowers during hard times.

  The org does have caring people, too. The environment it promotes tries to squeeze it out of those individuals.

  Memorial Flyer Acknowledges Public Disdain for JWs - Implicitly

  yesterday, i had the opportunity to review the official jw invitation to their "memorial" event.

  the front of the flyer has a well-groomed, caucasian jesus, leading all the minority people somewhere .

  most likely to a factory in brooklyn to serve as slaves for a publishing company.. curiously, there is no mention of jehovah's witnesses anywhere on the face of that flyer.

  this past saturday, i was watching the georgetown/syracuse game, and a nike commercial was played during one of the breaks.

  i couldn't locate the exact commercial, but below is a variation of it that has scenes from the same one that aired on saturday.

  man did i feel some heavy resentment towards the wt during and especially after the commercial aired.
